evaluation Q1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Kim’s

1. Mid shot of her with candy

We have developed the convention of the genre with costume because it is hybrid genre. Her style falls mostly in the pop genre but because of the red and black element to it brings out the rock genre. The white blouse compliment the simplicity of the pop styling and the tie represents the rock styling, which gives it a more edgy look.

Her facial expression we used to challenge the conventions. This subverts conventions because of the comical expression she has on her face where rock usually as a edgy and a more serious expression about it and is more conventional of the pop genre as we played around which is similar to Katy Perry.

2. Gummy Bear

Here Katy Perry California Girl inspired us where she animated the gummy bears, we used this as it represents the pop side to our video. We used to gummy bears who had different colours to represent the colours associated with pop which are usually bright and colourful. The white background was used so we could emphasis the colours of the gummy bears. We developed this shot because we had gummy bears coming out of a phone, which is more experimental. We also used a blackberry phone to link with our young audience where technology is one of the most important aspect of life and how they are increasingly growing interest with blackberry.

3. POV of Yearbook

Conventionally Pop rock videos are usually performance and conceptually based but we added a more narrative element to it as we continually little narration of her obsession, which challenges the convention of Pop rock video. We however used the conventions of pop rock with the coloured candies within the yearbook. We challenged the convention of our a pop rock video in this scene because here we have her looking and in love with the gummy bear and not a boy subverting from the expectation of the audience.

The use of the candies here illustrate the lyrics of Need you Like Candy where music videos usually illustrate the lyrics.

4. Establishing shot of Store

Here we challenged the conventions of a pop rock music video with this location. pop rock video's are usually more elaborate setting where we used a more realistic setting.

5. Shot of the Whole Band

Costume-

We have a clear star persona which links to the genre of music which we are conforming to a typical music video as artist’s star persona usually links with the genre of their music falls in. Our band has a pop style but with a touch of rock styling. Each band member is wearing a different bright colour (Pink, Purple, and Red), which are typical colours that are associated with the Pop genre because they are bright vibrant colours which appeals to the young audience we are targeting. The dark waistcoats and the accessories represent the rock style.

6. Long shot of girl on bed

Here we used the conventions of a music video as we edited to the beat. Here the action is slow to match the pace of the song here and as it got faster the action increases.
